Living in Caves

"Experts once considered cave dwellers to be evolutionary dead ends... living fossils. But now... we're learning that this hidden world is as dynamic as the one above ground. Far from being dead zones, caves are evolutionary laboratories."

The fish and crab modeled here are blind. The spider, found in a coastal cave in Oregon and dubbed Trogloraptor marchingtoni, is so unique it required its own family and genus.
